Check Whether imap is enabled or not.
In case IMAP is not enabled , please follow below steps in Linux:
Step 1:
apt-get install php5-imap
Step 2:
php5enmod imap
Step 3:
/etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Check gmail security issues here. Please see below links , you have to change some configuration at email end.

https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureappsAlso check app/tmp/logs/os-email.log file for any error.
